Tavern Rumble is an offline singleplayer card/roguelike game that takes the Slay the Spire formula to the next level of fun and strategic gameplay by adding a simple twist to it (keep reading).
First, you select a champion from seven possible classes, each with their own unique cards and combos capabilities, and then you start a run on a procedurally generated map full of enemies, shops (buy new cards), blacksmiths (upgrade your cards), bosses, and more. Your objective is to defeat the final boss, just like in similar games.
What makes Tavern Rumble stands out is the addition of a grid for both you and your opponent to summon unit cards during combat. Yes, a simple grid makes that much of a difference to the core card combat gameplay. Besides, the effects of the cards on Tavern Ramble are pretty well designed and unique.
Graphics are pixelated and nothing special. Touch controls work just fine. I would love to see this game in portrait mode, but that’s a personal preference. Monetization includes watching ads to get extra gold and other minor buffs during each run (skippable if you like playing hardcore), watching ads to play a champion that is currently locked, and an in-game currency you can grind or buy with real money used to unlock those champions and different game modes (which adds to the fun and replayability).
If you can get past the graphics of a game, this is a true gem. Guaranteed entertainment.
